PROAL PERRY, AUGUSTAN WINE IMPORTS

In 1978, at the age of 22, Proal bought the famous Key West landmark, Sloppy Joe's Bar. Over the next seven years, Proal re-established it as one of the country's classic bars through events like "The Hemingway Days Festival" and the now-ubiquitous, Sloppy Joe's T-shirt.

In 1985, Proal left Sloppy Joe's to concentrate on a new projects such as Louie's Backyard and The Cafe at Louie's. He left Key West in 1989 to work with several establishments in South Florida, including "a Mano," where he looked after the front of the house and the wine program.

His passion for wine soon overshadowed the allure of the restaurant business. Proal had become friends with Bruce Neyers, Sales Director for Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant. With only a few large distributors to choose from, Bruce urged Proal to become the Kermit Lynch Distributor for Florida, which led to Augustan Wine Imports becoming a reality in 1993.
